Ms. Stowell has put together a very interesting article on the need for schools to take a broad approach to safety and security. In her article she points out that armed intruder events are very complicated and can arise out of many different situations. In other words, there will never be a single answer to preventing or preparing for such an event. It will take a multi-faceted approach and will require engagement of administration, faculty, parents and, most importantly, students. We also appreciate the emphasis on "simple and effective" procedures mentioned by both John Michael Keyes (I Love You Guys Foundation) as well as Weld County School representatives. Simple and effective solutions are far more likely to be implemented in a crisis situation and therefore more likely to save lives.
